Haramaki
The Japanese believe the hara (belly)
is the center of the human spirit and the source for the
mysterious internal energy called "ki." To
enhance their ki energy and to maintain their health, the Japanese
men and women often wear haramaki
(stomach or belly warmer) under their clothing. These
stretchable cloth bands are worn around the waist to protect and
keep your hara warm. They also provide a convenient
storage place for valuables as well.
Japanese clerks
often wore shônin (merchant-style) aprons which
advertised their company or represented some aspect of the
products offered. These heavyweight canvas (100% cotton) aprons
are 17 inches wide and 27-1/2 inches long with an attached 88-inch belt.
